BIOSPHERE 2-GLOBE Teacher Training Workshop Registration
November 7-8,14-15 1997

Yes, I would like to attend the second GLOBE Teacher Training Workshop at Biosphere 2 and have my students to join an international network of students, working with scientists, to learn more about our environment.

I understand that to participate fully in the GLOBE Program, my school will need scientific measurement instruments meeting GLOBE specifications. GLOBE student measurements include observations in Atmosphere/Climate, Hydrology, Land Cover/Biology, and Soils. Costs for scientific equipment will be less than $405 for elementary schools, $585 for intermediate schools, and $605 for high schools, depending upon what equipment you already have and how much of the program you will implement. In addition, my school will need to provide, for student use, World Wide Web access to the internet, which involves use of a suitable computer together with a telephone line and access through an Internet Service Provider. Workshop participants will be provided a copy of the GLOBE educational materials and receive training in GLOBE measurement procedures, GLOBE learning activities, Image Processing and use of the Internet/World Wide Web.

There is no cost for the training or for the educational materials; however, GLOBE is not responsible for meal fees, accommodations, or travel expenses to and from GLOBE workshops. Each participant is encouraged to purchase a meal ticket for $60 that includes four continental breakfasts, lunches and snack breaks. Please send a nonrefundable $25 check to reserve a place to Ms. Veronica Gillen at: Biosphere 2 Center, PO Box 689, Oracle, AZ, 85623 by Nov. 5. This amount will either be credited to your account or the check will be returned if it is easier to pay the full meal and lodging costs with one district check when you check in. Teachers staying at the Biosphere Friday night can purchase dinner in the Biosphere Cafe at regular rates ($10-15/meal). This is designed as a "commuting" training, with many teachers commuting from home. A block of rooms have been reserved at the Inn at the Biosphere for workshop participants on Friday November 7 and 14. Participants are encouraged to stay as there will be supplementary web browsing time and Biosphere 2 related activities during the evening hours. However, THERE IS NO OBLIGATION FOR YOU TO STAY AT THE BIOSPHERE 2 INN. The group single or double rate is $65/night. Please mention "GLOBE workshop" when making reservations by Oct. 7. Call Veronica Gillen (520-896-6204) at Biosphere 2 to make your room reservations. Please indicate below if you are interested in sharing a room with another teacher and we will try to find you a suitable roommate. Veronica indicates that there are no completely smoke-free rooms but if you so indicate, they will make a special effort to air out the room.

Workshop spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and space for this workshop is extremely limited. There is limited room availability the first Friday so get your reservations in early. You will receive confirmation of your registration by Email. Workshop dates and meal fees are subject to change (but it is unlikely). You will be notified immediately of any changes related to your selection. Travel plans should not be made until confirmation of your registration has been received.
