Spring 2000 Science Plans, Greenland Environmental Observatory
January 10, 2000
Dear Colleagues,
Beginning this spring colleagues from both US and international institutions will commence studies at the Greenland Environmental Observatory (GEOsummit). The observatory is located at Summit, Greenland (72oN, 38oW), and is at the highest elevation north of the arctic circle. This unique location provides us the ability to make high quality measurements from a variety of scientific fields (see Whitepaper). The five priority areas that have been identified include i) ice-core interpretation, ii) tropospheric chemistry, iii) radiation, energy balance and boundary layer dynamics, iv) stratospheric observations, and v) atmospheric electricity. This season will primarily involve construction of towers, and installation of year-round monitoring equipment.
Currently the following institutions will be involved in the Summer 2000 field campaign:
Check frequently for updates.
Sincerely,
Roger Bales
